- Silicone Cauldron Molds: These come with your cauldron cakes in the parks! Do NOT throw them away! I haven’t been able to find a good silicone mold elsewhere, especially for the price.
- Bosh Universal Plus Mixer: To whip up that perfect frosting! This mixer is also perfect for cookies, cakes, and most importantly . . . bread!
- Mixing Bowls: For sifting and mixing ingredients: these bowls can also be used if you don’t want to use a stand mixer, or do not have a stand mixer.
- Piping Bags and Tips: For that intricate flame-like frosting design! While you technically can use a zip lock bag, I’ve had too many of those burst on me before. A piping bag and a 1M tip will give you the perfect look, AND not create a mess! This kit is great for starters!
Instructions:
- Prep Your Cauldrons: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray your silicone cauldrons with cooking spray.
- Cream Together Butter and Sugar: In the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in Eggs: Crack the eggs into a separate bowl (to make sure they are all good), then add them one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing thoroughly between each addition.
- Add the Secret Ingredients: Add the mayo and the sourdough discard into the egg mixture until thoroughly combined. These will add both texture and moisture into your cauldron cakes!
- Mix the Wet & Sift the Dry: Mix together the Milk, Vanilla, and Pero Drink Mix Powder. Then, in a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Alternate Additions: Alternate adding the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients to the batter until everything is thoroughly combined.
- Add Chocolate Chunks: Finally, mix in 4 oz of chocolate chunks to the batter and pour 3/4 cup batter into each silicone cauldron.
- Bake: Bake on a sheet tray for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with just a few wet crumbs on it (not liquid-y batter, and not entirely clean either)
- Decorate & Serve: Decorate with your favorite frosting recipe (or try our recipe for Classic American Buttercream).
